Miami Factory Wants you to Chew on This!

Gum has long been used for a lot of things: fresh breath, hunger suppressant, quitting smoking. What about sex? Well thanks to an Opa Locka company, there’s a whole lot of chewing going on.  Meet Sexlets Gum, whose makers claim it enhances male libido and performance.

It’s an antioxidant, testosterone booster blood stimulator, energizer,” said Tommy Babil, the man behind the gum. “As soon as you chew the gum and bite into it, it releases all these natural ingredients which are instantly absorbed into the body through the capillaries.”

Sexlets are not a FDA approved prescription drug like Viagra or Cialis, they’re a berrymint flavored, all-natural blend of herbal supplements.

So what exactly is in a piece of the gum? According to the back of the box, some of the active ingredients include Ginseng, Vitamin E and herbs called Yohimbe Bark, which have been used for male enhancement for hundreds of years.

The Yohimbe Bark has its good parts and bad parts, according to Pembroke Pines urologist Dr. Harvey Samowitz.

“It’s been around for a long, long time, used by American Indians I believe, and it does increase the blood flow to the penis,” Samowitz said, adding that there are side effects. “The Yohimbe has been know to affect blood pressure.”

Babil, 37, has been in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry for 10 years. He first started producing the herbal blend in capsules and last year turned it into gum.

His factory produces about a million pieces of the stimulating gum a month to keep up with demand.

“We suggest you take three pieces of gum a day,” Babil explained.

But the real question is, does the gum work?

“That’s the real question, you know even a placebo has a powerful effect,” Dr. Samowitz said. Though he doesn’t endorse the product, Samowitz believes some men could benefit from chomping on the gum, adding that it’s probably safe if it isn’t overused.

But before you pop one in your mouth, take note: there’s one ingredient that might make you a bit squeamish.

“Orchic powder, and they don’t talk a lot about it but that is ground up testicles,” Samowitz said.

Story Courtesy of NBCMiami

Jeffrey Donovan, the ShamWow guy, Lawrence Taylor, Jim Morrison…even quiet old Mickey Rourke’s been known to indulge in a little South Florida celebrity arrest action.

Somehow Grammy nominee Buju Banton’s legal trouble sounds considerably less incidental and a lot more serious than the arrests of other stars: the controversial Jamaican reggae artist has been in custody since Thursday on federal charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine.

(That’s an amount worth either $15,000, $120,000, more, or free, depending on what fellow celeb signifies Banton’s market discount.)

The charge stems from a case out of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Tampa, where Banton, whose real name is Mark Anthony Myrie, will be transferred. Details in the case were not released.

Banton, who splits time between homes in Tamarac and Jamaica, isn’t a stranger to notoriety. While heralded by reggae devotees as one of the most important voices for poor Jamaicans, Banton has faced heavy criticism, protests, and boycotts over lyrics that appear to advocate or endorse violence against gays in his most infamous song, 1992’s “Boom Bye Bye,” and others.

He was charged with helping beat six gay men in Jamaica in 2004, but a judge dismissed the case for lack of evidence.
